How To Transform Your Space Without Renovating

Dreaming of making big changes? Sadly, anything major you might want to do is probably going to be put on hold for a while.

That said, now’s the perfect time to plan your future renovation, so if you’re at that point I recommend starting to moodboard! Hey, it’ll give you a good distraction right? But in the event that you’re itching for changes you can implement right now, I thought I would share a few ideas for what you can do at home to make a big impact, without renovating. These are all easy updates that you can make at home, using things you probably already have.

GET ORGANISED

Honestly, decluttering and tidying can revitalize your space so much more than you realize. I know that for myself, whenever I do a massive clean out I honestly feel like we live in a new house! It can be challenging to keep it that way, especially when you have kids at home, and finding time can be hard. But it’s so worth it. Check out our decluttering guide here.

REARRANGE YOUR FURNITURE

If you’ve been a long time reader, or even a short time one, you’ll know that one of my favorite things to do is rearrange the furniture. It’s kind of a requirement when you’re an interiors blogger and work at home. But even if you’re not, it’s such an easy way to make your space feel brand new again… Without renovating. Consider changing the layout of your living room.

ADD MIRRORS

Mirrors are magic. Honestly. They make a room feel lighter, brighter and bigger without having to knock through any walls. If your space feels like it needs a skylight or more windows, perhaps consider adding a big mirror first? I like to add a standing mirror in rooms on the darker side of the house, and then also a few wall mounted mirrors here and there to reflect as much light as possible.

DISGUISE UGLY FLOORS

Floors have a big impact on the whole look and feel of your space. So if they are ugly, it makes sense that you might want to change them. That said, there are so many things you can do to disguise ugly floors that don’t involve a huge outlay or getting a contractor in. The first and easiest thing to do is to cover them up using rugs! I am a big fan of large rugs, and also layering rugs, so that not so great floors aren’t the focus. If you have wooden floors and they’re not in great shape, you can also consider painting them!

REPLACE HARDWARE

Sometimes, it’s the little things that make the biggest statement. Take hardware for example. Plain or dated knobs on cabinets or doors can bring down the whole look and feel of a room. In the same way, a nice updated handle can change a space a lot.

USE PAINT

Paint is technically a tool for renovating, but used on its own it is a very easy way to update a space without knocking out a wall or doing anything too drastic. Even just a fresh coat of white paint throughout a room or a house can completely list and revitalize the space around you.
